The history of Aigner watches
Born in Hungary in 1904, Etienne Aigner has become synonymous with leather craftsmanship and design. He created his first handbag that was met with great success, but it wasn’t until he teamed up with Heiner H. Rankl, in Munich in 1965 that the brand Aigner developed.
The ‘A’ in Aigner was created to look like a horseshoe, and many of the designs had either a horse racing or country feel to them. In the 1960s and 70s, Aigner leather saddle bag and doctors bag became style icons. Over the decades the brand has grown from beautifully crafted leather handbags to watches in the 1980s, to womenswear and menswear in the 1990s.
Unfortunately, the founder of the brand, Etienne died in New York in 2000.
Despite his death, his legacy continues. The brand showed in Milan. In 2005 20 stores were opened in the Near and Far East.
Today, the watches continue to carry the horseshoe symbol in various guises.
