The history of Heuer watches
Before the brand was known as tag Heuer (from 1985), Heuer was a brand with a long history of watchmaking. Founded in 1860 in Switzerland by Edouard Heuer, Uhrenmanufaktur Heuer AG was formed. Heuer’s first chronograph was patented in 1882, and four years later his oscillating pinion was licensed. This is still used by watchmakers of mechanical chronographs. In 1911 he patented the first dashboard chronograph for cars and aircraft. A few years later he produced the first wrist chronograph. Edouard’s son Charles-Auguste continued the work of his father and produced the first stopwatch accurate to 1/100 of a second, which was soon followed by a stopwatch offering 1/50 of a second.
Throughout the decades, Heuer watches have become popular with pilots and car racers. In the 1970s they introduced the Chronosplit. A digital chronograph with dual LED and LCD displays.
